A moisture meter is used to measure the amount of moisture present in the air or to make an accurate determination of what a specific room is capable of holding. A moisture meter uses moisture content, based on humidity or dew point measurement.

This instrument uses carbon dioxide to monitor humidity and allows for an exact determination of the specific atmospheric conditions. Measurements are made and recorded at intervals. The most common types of atmospheric conditions a moisture meter are used for our bathroom and kitchen moisture, wood construction, sewer pipe leaks, and indoor air quality.

Moisture content is measured by the actual measurement of the liquid and solid contents in the instrument. Measurements can be taken at different levels. A hydrometer is another type of moisture meter functions. It is very similar to the ampoule except that it contains water instead of thermal pads. The hydrometer measures water content by using a small glass tube that is filled with water. When the tube is held against the air, the water travels from the tube into the instrument.
